Recruitment

The Bladensburg Volunteer Fire Department is
always looking for dedicated members!

We constantly strive to build our membership
To support our 100% Volunteer staffing.

A little bit about us…..

In spring of 2004, an offer was made to the
Prince George's County Fire/EMS Department, to utilize the career
staffing assigned to station 9, in other areas of the
County where it was needed.

This offer was made due to the tremendous dedication our members
have and with commitment to provide the best
possible services available, not just in our area, but the County as a whole.

This has been a cooperative effort, in the most positive sense,
between both organizations.  It truly exemplifies the ability of both
management teams, working together, to provide the highest
level of service to the Citizens of our County.

In this move, "Doing 100% of the Job!" signifies that the Volunteers
will continue to handle all of the responsibilities
originally assigned to our Career staff.
This will include maintaining and submitting all
necessary reports as required by the County, performing
Multi-Family Dwelling inspections throughout the first due, mapping,
pre plan information and the numerous other
duties associated with the day to day operations.

Our station is located minutes from the University Of Maryland at
College Park, Howard University, American University,
George Washinton University and Georgetown U.

We also have many other community Colleges within a few minutes:
Prince Georges Community College,
Montgomery County Community College (Takoma Park)

What we have to offer….

-Strong Volunteer Base
-Excellent Leadership
-Experienced Company Officers
-Brand new addition, housing 24 live-ins
-Large Fire Service Library
-Brand new Computer/Study room
-Workout room
-Tremendous Call Volume
and much more…..

For more information contact the station (301) 864-4415

***WORKING FIRE***

Just before 0600 hours the Truck Company was alerted to respond to the area of 34th St and Eastern Ave in Mount Rainier, MD for the reported house fire. The truck arrived moments after the first due engine with heavy fire showing from division 1 on multiple sides. The truck quickly gained access through side delta and was met with waist high hoarding conditions. The truck pushed through to search the room and then exited to enter through side Alpha due to the hoarding conditions closing off the hallway to the house. Once entering side Alpha crews continued to be met with heavy fire and hoarding conditions on division 1 & 2. The evacuation tones were soon sounded due to fire conditions and collapse seeming imminent. Crews operated on the exterior then re-entered the structure to extinguish the remaining of the fire. Sadly crews located two victims that had passed away inside of the structure. The truck company operated for over 7+ hours to assist in the investigation before returning to service.

Great job .

I think “fully involved “ would be appropriate 😝

That wasn't Chuck, was it?

The members and officers of Bladensburg Volunteer Fire Department Company 9, Prince George's County, Maryland offer our sincerest and deepest condolences and abundance of Prayers to the members of York City Fire Department in Pennsylvania as well as the families and friends of those taken from you today and those injured. We are wholly saddened by this enormous event.

We will always ponder the inevitable question "Why!" The only one able to answer that is he who holds our hand but we can't feel him, he who looks down upon us but we can't see him, he who speaks to us yet we don't hear him. It is our Fathers plan, we are his children, we should not question him but in these type circumstances it is hard not to. Have faith in GOD.

***WORKING FIRE***

Just after 2200 hours the engine and truck company along with ambulance 809 were alerted to respond to the 4200 block of Monroe Street in Brentwood, MD for the reported house fire. The engine was dispatched as the 2nd due and the truck company 1st due. Coming through the Peace Cross it was apparent the men were headed to a working fire; as fire was visible in the sky. Engine 809 arrived as first due and took position on side Alpha with the truck company directly behind them. Crews arrived to find fire through the roof of a two story single family dwelling. The engine crew stretched a 200’ cross lay to the front door as the truck company gained access through side Alpha. The truck and engine entered the structure to find heavy fire involving the first floor that had extended into the attic. The engine began to knock down the fire so the truck company could make it past to perform searches of the back bedrooms. The canman from Truck 9 was conducting a search of a back bedroom when he located a victim. Calling out to others of his finding he was assisted by other companies assisted in removing the patient from the structure. Once outside the patient was turned over to EMS. The engine at this time had made substantial progress in knocking down the fire and was mopping up the attic. Chief 9B as Battalion Chief 884 held the command. Chief 9 operated on the interior of the structure. The crews operated for several hours to assist the the fire marshal's office in their investigation.
