Friday, June 4, 2010 - At 0800 hours, Engine 94 was alerted first due to 3801 Kenilworth Avenue (east building) for the apartment fire with people trapped. Engine 94 arrived on the scene with nothing showing from side "A" of the building. As the 5 man crew was making entry into the front of the building, the Police Department was advising a working fire in apartment #102. While the crew was stretching the 400' line down the hallway, Firefighter Johnson (lives on 4th floor) grabbed the 14' ladder off Engine 94 and ran around back to pull the trapped victims off the balcony. After forching the door, fire met them in the hallway. The crew found the front hallway and closet off and quickly knocked down the fire. Crews from 9 and 7 finished up the search's and started opening up, while Engine's 33 and 55 advanced back up lines to the lobby and stood fast. All of the work was completed with in 20 minutes of arrival.
One of the patients rescued was transported to Washington Hospital Center with burns to her arms. Company cleared the scene at 0945 hours.
