At 1207 hours Engine 93 and Truck 9 were alerted to 5231 Kenilworth Avenue for the apartment fire. Units from 9 arrived on the scene with nothing showing. While stretching the 4001.5 inch line to the building crews noticed smoke from the second and third floor windows. Crews gained access to the building finding fire in the void spaces extending to the upper floors. While the men from 9 worked on division one multiple units worked on the upper floors to stop any extension. A total of 5 lines were placed in service off of Engine 93 and 9 ladders were thrown to the building from Truck 9 and Tower 33. The Truck driver and Tower 33 handled opening the roof up with two nice size holes. Majority of the fire was out with in twenty minutes. For procautionary measures a second alarm was sounded. Except Squad 1 the rest of the second was released in twenty minutes.
