At 04:33, Public Safety Communications began recieving multiple calls for the area of 63rd Avenue and Sheridan Street in Riverdale Heights, for the report of a house fire with two people trapped inside. The Engine Company, Truck Company and Ambulance from Bladensburg were alerted on the initial alarm, turning out with a total 15 volunteers. The Deputy Chief arrived behind the first due engine company, to find fire showing from the first and second floors of a single family home. Engine 92 arrived and laid out from a secondary water supply, then stretched the 400′ attack line over a fence to the rear yard. Truck 9 arrived, and took their assigned position as the “search company”. Due to first due special service having issues forcing entry into the front door, the bar man from Truck 9 forced entry into Side Alpha, and began an aggressive search to find the trapped occupants. The crew from the Truck Company quickly located the victim in the front living room, and with assistance from the companies operating in the general area, removed the victim to Ambulance 98 out front. At the same time, Engine 92’s crew was on the rear porch, making entry and extingushing all fire on the first floor, and due to moderate hoarding conditions, backed the line out and took their line over ladder to the second floor to extingush the extension up there. Ambulance 98 quickly transported the patient to the MedStar Burn Center in the District of Columbia. The crews operated for over three hours before returning to service.
